  • (1888PressRelease) September 03, 2013 - Mr. Kapil Sibal, Union Minister for Communication &Information Technology and Law &Order expressed happiness at the increasing ratio of girls against boys in school, speaking as the Chief Guest at Apeejay School, Pitampura , on Saturday.

    Mr Sibal called for "an education system which paves way for creativity, enabling children to discover their future for themselves". He added that "parents should always allow children to discover their own genius. Parents should remember that the DNA of their child is different, their dreams are different".

    Speaking about the importance of technology in the education, Mr.Kapil Sibal informed that the Government has already initiated the process of laying down fibre optics which would connect 2,50,000 Gram Panchayats. "This will help students to get quality education from any part of the country. Such is going to be the power of technology in the coming years that sitting in a single University; students will be able to experience and participate in courses from five different Universities (which is why, Meta University are being brought in)".

    "The growth of the nation does not depend on the GDP of the nation but on the gross enrolment ratio of the students in colleges, GDP of the nation gives you trillions of dollars but the GDP is created in the university and in higher education, when I became the HRD minister first thing I decided was that I will increase this gross enrolment ratio to 30% by 2020 instead of 12.4% and today it has risen to 19% and we will reach the figure of 30% much before 2020 and this was the rational for the Right to Education act, as it will provide a push to every student to go for higher education," he added.

    Mrs.Sushma Berlia, President, Apeejay Education Society presided over the event. Thanking Mr.Sibal for his presence, she said: "Sibalji may recall that during his tenure as Ministry of Science & Technology, a national competition named Future Cities 2020 was launched by his ministry wherein school students were to use their design skills to help prepare a model for India's cities for the year 2020. He would be delighted to recall that in two successive years, our team of students from Apeejay Schools at Noida, Sheikh Sarai and Saket won top honors in the competition and the awards were given away by Sibalji himself".
