Junior Achievement of North Florida Matched a Challenge Grant from the Delores Barr Weaver Fund
The 1:1 challenge grant offered $35,000 for $35,000 raised.
- Jacksonville, FL (1888PressRelease) September 18, 2019 - Junior Achievement of North Florida has matched a challenge from the Delores Barr Weaver Fund. Mrs. Weaver offered to match $35,000 in a 1:1 challenge grant and the not-for-profit organization was able to raise the money to meet the challenge. The DuBow Family Foundation, Fidelity Investments and nine members of the JA of North Florida board of directors stepped forward to help the organization meet the challenge for a total of $70,000 to help fund JA programs.
“Our amazing board members, the DuBow Family Foundation, our friends at Fidelity Investments and especially Mrs. Weaver have given us a great gift that will have a major impact on our New Town Financial Literacy Center,” said Steve St. Amand, president of JA of North Florida. “This grant will complement the generous funding that we receive from The Jim Moran Foundation.”
Nine board members together donated $13,000 to the challenge grant, the DuBow Family Foundation contributed $10,000 and Fidelity Investments gave $5,600 to assist the nonprofit in meeting the challenge.
The JA Financial Literacy Center in New Town is where third-grade students from throughout Duval county participate in the JA’s Our Community program and the JA Eating Healthy on a Budget program which includes a shopping trip to the Jacksonville Farmer’s Market. In the 2018-19 school year, JA was able to reach 6,125 at the New Town center which was a record for the organization. They hope this funding will help them extend their reach in the 2019-2020 school year.
The Delores Barr Weaver Fund offered the challenge grant to celebrate JA of North Florida’s 56 years of service and going forward. Mrs. Weaver has made numerous grants of support for the organization over the years. She provides a grant of $10,000 a year in perpetuity from the Delores Barr Weaver Forever Event Fund and also gave the organization a $90,000 grant in 2018 to help fund a program manager position.

Delores Barr Weaver established this Fund at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida in 2012 to provide grants to nonprofit organizations that do work she has supported over many years and to encourage others to do so as well. Mrs. Weaver has an extraordinary legacy of philanthropy, and she has provided transformative support to dozens of nonprofit organizations that uplift, enlighten and advance our community. Her establishment of the Delores Barr Weaver Fund ($50 million) in 2012 was the largest gift in The Community Foundation’s history.
