- Detroit, MI (1888PressRelease) May 27, 2011 - This is the first annual Firefighter and Police appreciation day planned by Vargo Golf Company in Metro Detroit. "We plan on doing several similar promotions this year at all of our courses," states owner Rob Vargo.
The Vargo Golf Company has 8 courses in the metro area and they are one of the few golf course operators that post coupons directly on their websites for all golfers to use. The website is designed to give the public a variety of information, ranging from individual course amenities, outing information, banquet hall information, house tournaments, prices, and promotions.
The management company is owned by Rob Vargo, a longtime resident of Rochester, Mi. His golf career started in 1998 when he purchased Bruce Hills Golf Club in Romeo. Several years later in 2007 he purchased an additional course The Myth Golf & Banquets in Oakland Township, formally Beaver Creek Golf Links which was known as a poor managed course. It only took one season for golfers to realize that Mr. Vargo was making changes to the battered course which included purchasing a new irrigation system, regular fertilizing, ripping up artificial turf and making sure all cart paths were safe.
The turn-around at The Myth caught the eye of the property owners of The Hampton Golf Club, which was also in need of a turnaround in 2008. Then, in 2011, the Vargo Golf Company was selected to manage the four golf courses owned by the City of Detroit, Rackham Golf Club, Rouge Park Golf Course, Chandler Park Golf Course, and Palmer Park Golf Course.
The Vargo Golf Company was selected by the City of Detroit to bring back the excitement and purity of golf in Detroit. Mr. Vargo is committed to making the city courses a destination once again and plans on working closely with the city to achieve this goal. "So far the Detroit Recreational Department and the citizens of Detroit have embraced our local company expanding into Detroit and has made us feel welcome throughout the transitional process, which has been refreshing," says Mr. Vargo.
When asked what he contributes the growth of his business to over the last 14 years Mr. Vargo says," I tried to stay away from falling into the old ways and ideas of the golf business, where historically women and juniors golfers were discouraged from playing. Now we cater to these two demographics through our junior leagues and exclusively women golf outings. We also have great senior rates at all of our courses and there is nobody better at helping customers put on golf outings and wedding receptions."
