JSW Foundation and SNDT Women's University signs MoU for Restoration project

  • (1888PressRelease) September 14, 2012 - Kanyashala is a grade III heritage building where SNDT Women's University has given its consent for restoration, interiors and adaptive reuse of the same to be completed by JSW Foundation.

    JSW Foundation is the social development wing of $10 billion JSW Group, which plans and implements social development activities of group companies.

    Upon receipt of relevant required consent from SNDT University, JSW Foundation will commence the work of the project by appointing conservation architects and contractors required for the completion of the Project. It will spend around Rs 4-5 crore for the restoration over next three years and the new conservation building will be named as "Sangita Jindal Centre for Arts".

    JSW Foundation will have a permanent seat in the advisory board constituted for the purpose of management of activities in the new conservation building, which will be headed by the Vice-Chancellor of the SNDT Women's University.

    The new conservation building will be used for the purpose of undergraduate and post graduate departments of Arts and Painting of SNDT Women's University as well as other departments such as Music, Dance and Theatre etc., to educate women for Degree and Master and Ph.D. degree programmes, in addition to various Diploma Certificate prorammes approved by SNDT Women's University.

    Earlier, JSW Foundation has restored the interiors of Sir JJ College of Arts in Mumbai for about Rs 1.5 crore. It recently won the UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Award for its work on the Chandramauleshwar Temple at Hampi in Karnataka.

    Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey (SNDT) Women's University is the first women university in India as well as in South East Asia founded by Maharshi Karve for a noble cause of women's education.
