  • (1888PressRelease) September 06, 2014 - Sponsored by Salabed, Hendo International, TianDe, Bourgeois Boheme (vegan shoes) and M-Press Printers the panel brings together sustainable companies and influencers that will be addressing the impact and power of the end-consumer before culminating in the catwalk.

The panels protagonists includes Yousuf Almingi proprietor of Salabed, representatives from the Ethical Fashion Forum and the Sue Ryder charity, Winnie Sseruma journalist, activist & founder of the BAGCI charity, author Jacqueline Shaw founder of Africa Fashion Guide, Edyta Wojcik, head of distribution at Tiande and ethical designer José Hendo. José Hendo's much anticipated "Spontaneous S/S R3" collection encompasses mens- and womenswear and is created from fabrics such as silks, silk chiffon, linen and bark-cloth. The designer by royal appointment (she is the go-to-designer for Uganda's royalty and VIP) is known as an expert on bark-cloth and has began her R3 campaign in February, a movement aimed at businesses across all industries but focusing on the end consumers.

José Hendo says: "The history of a garment is just as important as the future of a garment as well as it's present. The panelist will give some insight on how to implement sustainability and the challenges we all face. I am excited to not only spread the word on my ethical approach which I am passionate about but this will also be my first solo showcase."

Yousuf Almingi sheds light on the motivation behind Salabed's sponsorship of the label: "For anyone who knows anything about Uganda, Jose Hendo will stand out as a unique designer who has transformed the traditional bark cloth fabric that is centuries old into trendy street wear and a perfect representative of the R3 ethos. Salabed has always been in support of the designer due to her great creativity as well as a unique view of fashion that ought to be adopted by a wider fashion fraternity. Despite the variation in means, Salabed and Jose Hendo are representative of similar values and we are proud to be associated with the label and what it represents."

On her collection Hendo says: "The element of surprise is key to the collection. This R3 collection encompasses the Reduce Reuse Recycle R3 ethos. The freedom of re-invention doubting established criteria zero-waste, up-cycling, reconstruction, using design techniques that emphasises the sustainable approach to fashion runs through all my collections. My concept sits within the flux of impromptu, free, unpredictable, wild, untamed, restless, asymmetric, simple, fragile, exaggerated, organic." The discussion panel of ethical editorial label José Hendo is themed around her commitment to her R3 campaign, in aim of spreading the word and work on sustainability in the fashion industry and as end consumers. The panel brings together sustainable companies and influencers. We sharing the challenges, experience and applied working knowledge as well as solutions surrounding sustainable fashion, sustainable business practices and corporate responsibility with those that have shared, accompanied and support the same journey as well as the labels journey.
