- (1888PressRelease) November 26, 2013 - After a week packed with field activities and entrepreneurial programs, Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship (QRCE) celebrated with over than 30 organizations the conclusion of the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), which covered through its activities several governorates in the Kingdom's.
Around 3,000 young men and women participated in the event, which Jordan hosts for the fifth consecutive year. The participants interacted with 47 activities in 9 cities that included forums, talk sessions, workshops, and training courses that aim to cultivate the culture of entrepreneurship among the youth, while stimulating them to launch their ideas and employ them to serve society.
Throughout the seven-day span of the event, national and international institutions - in addition to entrepreneurs who participated in the Jordanian GEW's programs - dedicated their efforts to train and teach participants on basic concepts related to entrepreneurship, in addition to implementing its concepts in various sectors and fields.
Head of QRCE Eng. Farhan Kalaldeh said: "Entrepreneurship was not limited to the slogan of the week and its activities and programs, but it stretched to cover the organization, hosting, and the distinguished youth participation that had a major role in rendering this event a success, which Jordan hosted in synchronization with 136 countries around the world."
He added: "We have allocated more than 60% of the programs to target the youth in the various cities and governorates within the Kingdom, to reach out to more than 1.5 million of the Jordanians, aged between 15 and 24. Our partners at the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), Arab Potash Company (APC) and Intel Corporation, whom we deeply appreciate for their support and participation, helped us achieve that."
He praised the exceptional efforts of 28 other local and regional organizations for organizing the various youth programs and field activities, especially outside the Jordanian capital.
From her side, Shaden Al Majali At MEPI said: "The activities of the GEW focused on exploring new and practical methods to encourage sustainable development in the Jordanian society, with focus on governorates; sustainable development's goals cannot be achieved while geographically limited action is being implemented. We have seen that people from the governorates are interested to know more about entrepreneurship and learn how to employ it to serve them and their communities, which is what we have achieved by direct interaction with them during the last few days."
For his turn, Mr. Bishr Mahasneh, Head of Social Responsibility at the APC praised the various activities this year and their implementation, saying: "APC supports many programs in various areas such as Health, Education and Environment. Our support for GEW comes from our belief that this will be a key driver for the local economy. The experience QRCE has gained through hosting the previous weeks - in addition to the increase in the activities - helped to achieve the objectives of this event. Additionally, the academic and civil society organizations had direct impact on the level of interaction and awareness of the concept of entrepreneurship, which left its strong print in the hearts of the participants."
It is worth noting that the agenda of the GEW included several activities and events that gave the participants a chance to exchange expertise and information, chiefly: Several activities at Al Yarmouk University on entrepreneurship and its role in business and in stimulating and developing the national economy, and a discussion session on clean technology projects' prospects in Jordan, hosted in Irbid and Karak. Additionally, many success stories were brought up throughout the week.
During the conclusion of the GEW 2013 ceremony, QRCE recognized the winners for best activities and partnerships. Business Development Center (BDC) and Princess Basma Youth Resource Centre (PBYRC) were selected as Best Partners for this year, and Awareness Sessions on Small Businesses organized by National for Employment and Training (NET) was selected as best activity in the governorates, and Pitching Event in 'SHARAKA' organized by Business Development Center (BDC) as best activity organized in Amman.
