Jolie Vanier, 14-year-old Actress, Wins Major Screenplay Award At The International Family Film Festival (IFFF)
Jolie Vanier, teen author/actress, won the award for best IFFF Youth Fest screenplay in the comedy category (8-13) last weekend at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood.

"I want to thank the Festival for the award as well as the opportunity to network with directors and producers in hopes of turning my Puwaii screenplay into a television series," says Vanier. "I would also like to thank IFFF for recognizing the family values, rewards of friendship, love of animals and interest in diverse cultures emphasized by "Puwaii Adventures". Screenplay based on book series "Puwaii Adventures with Joliea & Friends tm" Created by Jolie several years ago, with the help of family and friends, this series focuses on Joliea, the world's youngest fashion designer tm, who travels around the globe in search of inspiration for her fashions. Accompanied by her brother, Jared, her best friend, Sarah, and her pets, Joliea meets all kinds of interesting characters from different countries as they travel in PuOie tm, a magical submarine that drives on land, sails in the sea, and flies in the air. " PuOie is environmentally friendly; it doesn't use a drop of gasoline," stresses Vanier.
The award-winning screenplay, the pilot for a potential TV series, transports Joliea and the happy adventurers to an animated world where they visit such fascinating destinations as Honolulu, Panama, Grand Cayman Island, and Malta. Along the way, they encounter a dancing sea shell, rescue a talking turtle and a royal princess, and enlist the help of a goddess -- all the while trying to escape a hurricane brewed up by a villain called Jack "le Rat"! Additional episode ideas give the "Puwaii Adventures" pilot "legs" Plot summaries for 12 additional shows include a visit to London, where Joliea is thrilled to meet the designer of Princess Catherine's stunning wedding dress. Rio, site of the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics, are also on the itinerary. And, of course, Joliea and her crew have to visit Paris, one of the world's most famous fashion capitals. Trips to Australia, Ireland, Greece, Israel, Fiji, and New Zealand are planned as well.
However, these trips include an element of danger - the villainous Jack "le Rat" is always lurking about trying to create havoc. Fortunately, Joliea can enlist the help of many magical beings including goddesses, fairies and leprechauns to combat the villain. Plus she, her brother, best friend and her pets don't lack for courage! Author, actress and now a songwriter! Author, illustrator and narrator (on the CD's and DVD's accompanying the books) of "Puwaii Adventures with Joliea & Friends" and the sequel "Puwaii Adventures with Joliea & Friends tm…the adventures continue", Vanier made her motion picture debut as Helvetica in the blockbuster "Shorts" (Warner Bros, August 2009). Directed by Robert Rodriguez, the film also starred Jon Cryer, Leslie Mann, William H. Macy, James Spader and Jimmy Bennett.
This very accomplished 14-year-old recently wrote a Puwaii theme song --"Take a Ride" -- to accompany her winning screenplay pilot. "I smooshed together Hawaiian, tropical and Italian influences," explains Vanier, who is in the process of exploring her newfound talent. "Puwaii Adventures" fan base continues to build, especially popular with young girls ages 10-15, this series was the subject of numerous book signings and readings at Barnes & Noble stores in both Los Angeles, and Scottsdale, Arizona. "The fact that these bookstore events reached standing-room capacity inspired me to write the screenplay pilot," points out Vanier. "At some point, I intend to go back and write more books for the series," she continues. "However, at this point, I'm kinda busy with acting in films and on stage, doing more song writing, and trying to get "Puwaii Adventures" on your TV screen!"
