- (1888PressRelease) May 28, 2011 - CONTESA the UK charity which supports aids orphans in Zambia and Berkley Mineral Resources Plc (BMR), the UK listed AIM company principally engaged in extraction of zinc and lead from tailings dumps at the Kabwe mine in Zambia, today announced that they had agreed to work jointly for the betterment of the Kabwe community.
The Chair of CONTESA Trustees Esnat Avon and the Chairman of BMR Masoud Alikhani initial meeting took place in April of this year at the official opening of the Kabwe Church Family Mission Futures Community School sponsored by BMR. Their mutual and common goals for the betterment of the Kabwe community was extended during a visit at BMR's head offices in London to discuss how CONTESA and BMR could work together supporting and sponsoring orphans in Kabwe.
Esnat Avon said of the meeting with BMR, "I am extremely excited at the partnering with Mr Alkhani and BMR. CONTESA is wholly dependent on the generosity of its supporters and donors, and with the generous support of organisations such as BMR, we can start the regeneration project of the Kabwe and the Church Family Mission (CFM) community." Avon continued "We will be working very closely with BMR and Mr Alikhani to develop feeding and educational programmes for the community around the BMR mine, by utilising the old mine for vocational training purposes, such as metal work, plumbing and agriculture."
Mr Alikhani will meet with CONTESA representatives in Kabwe next month with a view to evaluating how best to proceed. Mr Alikhani is currently arranging for the shipment of 600 t-shirts that he is donating to the Kabwe CFM orphans and for the construction of the fence around the CFM compound. Mr Alikhani said "I am excited at the prospect of working with CONTESA as BMR are totally committed to not only developing a highly successful mining company in Kabwe but also to being one of the main drivers behind a rejuvenated Kabwe" Alikhani added "Kabwe has a great history in the mining industry and I will be looking to establish buildings which would become a major Kabwe tourist attraction."
