- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) April 22, 2016 - Civic technology start-up DailyClout today announced a launch party in support of its first product BillCam, an embeddable, shareable legislative tracking tool that ties active bills with community annotation to 3rd party news stories, op-eds, and blog posts.
The free event will take place on Wednesday, April 27th, 2016 from 6-8pm at Parlor, a private members club in downtown Manhattan, located at 286 Spring Street. There will be two brief demos and presentations at 6:30 and 7:30pm.
Co-founded by journalist Dr. Naomi Wolf and Lisa Thomas, former CEO of Clif Bar, Inc., DailyClout's mission is to bring the practice of democracy to people's lives, every day. A non-partisan product, BillCam was partially funded by the Knight Foundation and built in partnership with Dom & Tom, a fast-rising Inc. 500 Company.
BillCam can be embedded in any article to make news about bills interactive and multidimensional. When a reader encounters BillCam in a news article or blog post, she can comment on the official bill, share the bill with friends and tweet the bill's sponsor or their local rep. By transforming news articles into political engagement through easy access to live bills, everyone can weigh in on state or federal bills and exert real political clout.
"BillCam pulls back the curtain and turns down the opacity of the current system. There is a tremendous appetite for civic engagement and participation in democracy, it's just that most people don't see an entry point," Wolf explains.
