Johnnie Newkirk is from Brooklyn, New York, a place known for creative types who are passionate with their craft. His musicality started in school, then in a choir, and he had performed in various events, boosting his confidence in himself and his talent. Soon he was forming his own music group and he called it The Components of Sound. Johnnie and his group were signed to Vigor Recording Corp., a subsidiary of De Lite Records. It was the 70's and Johnnie was learning the ropes of the music industry.
Influences such as old-school greats The Supremes, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Barry White, Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, and contemporary artists Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Usher have shaped Johnnie's current style and what else do you get but substance. 'I don't want them (my listeners) to run away from their feelings or emotions, but to embrace them, accept them and be grateful that they have them,' Johnnie shares. For what is music if not relating to it, making it your own.
The singer-songwriter Johnnie Newkirk is now the proud owner of his very own album. Within it are songs that will reel you in not just by its music alone but the message.
