- (1888PressRelease) May 25, 2016 - Lewes, Delaware : As the UK's Mental Health Week 2016 is about to begin on May 16, John Snow Labs announced their partnering with London's SHM Foundation to help with Project Khuluma. The SHM Foundation works globally to bring about positive social change through projects in the areas of learning and citizenship, health and the arts. There is growing awareness that HIV/AIDS-affected and infected adolescents may be at increased risk of mental health problems and distress. Project Khuluma was launched in late 2013 in South Africa through clinics in Pretoria and Cape Town and was set up specifically to address the mental health and wellbeing needs of HIV positive adolescents.
This announcement breaks just before the beginning of the UK's Mental Health Week 2016. The Mental Health Foundation is a UK charity which supports research into mental health issues, promotes better mental health, campaigns to reduce the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health, and develops better mental health services. Tackling mental health is a major global health challenge. Nearly 75% of the 450 million people worldwide with a mental illness live in the developing world, and 85% of these people have no access to treatment. The social and economic costs are enormous.
