  • (1888PressRelease) November 02, 2011 - Jody Scheiman, investment professional and dedicated community activist has been asked to "step up" and make a difference for The Center for Healthy Families in Columbus, Ohio.

Founded by visionary leader Donna James, a former senior executive of Fortune 500 Nationwide Insurance and current director for five prestigious corporate boards, The Center for Healthy Families is setting the nationwide standard in breaking the cycle of disadvantage that teen childbearing perpetuates through a holistic, coordinated system of community support.

Jody Scheiman has consistently dedicated much of her free time to serving on various Boards and leading fund raising events in order to support causes devoted to raising awareness and assisting those in need. Aside from serving on the Board of Trustees for the Center for Health Families.

Jody Scheiman also served as executive committee member on the Board of Trustees for the Columbus College of Art and Design, the Women's Fund of Central Ohio, the Hillel Foundation, and the Columbus AIDS Task Force. This past summer, Jody Scheiman led the fundraising efforts for Team Bexley, the top non-corporate peloton in the 2011 Pelotonia, a grassroots 2 day cycling event to benefit the Ohio State University's James Cancer center, one of the top comprehensive cancer centers in the United States. Jody Scheiman's fundraising efforts for the team totaled over $200,000.

"I was attracted by the fact that we aren't creating a new program or agency but instead combining the resources of existing agencies and organizations into a comprehensive continuum of services," noted Jody Scheiman when asked to serve on the Board of Trustees.

"The statistics associated with teen pregnancy are alarming," said Jody Scheiman. It has been reported that:

Teen pregnancy costs the United States at least 9 billion annually

Nearly 80% of unmarried teen mothers end up on welfare

1 in 4 teen mothers will become pregnant again within a year of giving birth to their first child.

"The services are out there from pregnancy prevention to health care, parenting education, child care and employment assistance but no way to bring it all together," says Toshia Safford, President and CEO of The Center for Healthy Families. "We are thrilled that Jody Scheiman is putting her time, energy and vision to help us," Safford continued.

"We can make a difference immediately and build a bridge to a brighter future for these teen mothers," Jody Scheiman recently said during a community outreach event. "When there is so much waste and overlap of agencies in Washington and nationwide, The Center for Healthy Families is a shining example and model of how it should be done." Jody Scheiman concluded.
