JK Harris Volunteers Participate in Trident United Way's Day of Caring
JK Harris & Company participated in United Way's nationwide Day of Caring event, a day set apart that allows organizations to provide manpower, tools and donations to other organizations in need of assistance.
- (1888PressRelease) September 16, 2010 - GOOSE CREEK, S.C - As the morning bell rang in the hallways of Summerville High School, 13 volunteers from JK Harris and Company donned work gloves and sunscreen to begin a spruce up job on the school's campus by painting and performing landscaping duties.
The 13 volunteers took part in Trident United Way's annual Day of Caring, held this year on September 14. The Day of Caring is an annual, community-wide and nationwide volunteer event that extends throughout the United Way's 1,300 community organizations. Every year, the Charleston-area event has one of the largest volunteer turnouts in the nation.
JK Harris joined approximately 6,500 other volunteers in the Tri-County area in participating in this year's Day of Caring.
This is the second year JK Harris and Company, the nation's largest tax representation firm, has gotten involved in volunteering. Last year, the company's volunteers went into local elementary schools to perform service work. This year, the group volunteered to assist with landscaping work at Summerville High School.
"It felt really good to give back to the community," said Anthony Pugh, an archiving specialist at JK Harris. "The best part for me was when some of the students walked up and thanked us personally for coming out to their school. That alone made it worth it to me and I know it really meant a lot to our group."
By the end of the day, the volunteers had assisted in mowing, edging, trimming trees, pulling weeds, painting, building a retaining wall and laying nearly 50 bales of pinestraw.
"I graduated from Summerville High School, class of 1990 and I was happy to give back to my school," said Victoria Perlich, a case specialist at JK Harris. "Three of my children have attended the school and it was an honor to give back and show the staff the community cares!"
