The objective of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise. Rotary is a service organization. Since 1910, the Rotary Motto has been 'Service Above Self'. Rotary strives to achieve its objective of service above self through activities in four primary areas, referred to as the Four Avenues of Service: Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service and International Service.
Incoming Rotary President Chad NeSmith said, "I'm so excited about all that Rotary does to contribute on a local, national and international level. It's a super worldwide organization. With the help of Rotary over the years through the Polio Plus Foundation, Polio should be eradicated by 2011. That's a major accomplishment that impacts the world forever."
The Rotary Club was charted in 1958 and meets each Thursday at Sybil's for lunch to discuss club initiatives, fundraisers, club business and upcoming events. NeSmith added, "One of our primary initiatives for the club this year is to continue to help Wayne County on the literacy front. Last year, we donated 800 books to the Wayne County library for the summer reading program. We're looking to expand our reach and continue that work in the next year and I'm excited to be a big part of that."
