Jayshree Venkatraman Becomes Chairman Of Amco
Ms. Jayshree Venkatraman appointed as Chairman of AMCO Batteries Limited (AMCO).
- (1888PressRelease) March 11, 2011 - The Board of Directors of AMCO Batteries Limited (AMCO) has elected Ms. Jayshree Venkatraman to the top post of Chairman of AMCO.
Though this would seem a natural progression in a string of succession, consequent of the demise of A Sivasailam on Jan 12, Ms Jayshree's elevation from Vice-Chairman of AMCO to Chairmanship is a sine qua non with her involvement with the affairs of AMCO since 1993 in various positions of executive power from Vice President to Vice Chairman.
AMCO has been a Battery company of repute since over 55 years, it being the first in India to manufacture train lighting batteries, telephone and telegraphic cells, stationary batteries for power houses, traction batteries and batteries for Defence. For several years AMCO exported industrial batteries to USSR and Bulgaria. Its later tie-up with Yuasa Corporation, Japan, led to production of 2-wheeler and 4-wheeler automotive batteries catering to OE segments.
In times of vicissitudes and tribulations of the Company not unfamiliar to industries of long tenure existence, Ms Jayshree steered the company for a turn-around with her deep insight into the working of the company, restructuring, analysing and solving the problems to tide over losses and putting the company back to robust health. Today AMCO even has a plant in Maduranthagam to produce pocket plate batteries in its plans.
Jayshree took over as CEO of AMCO in 2005, bringing Marketing and Manufacturing under her control and became its Director in 2006.
The single prominent achievement of establishing a mighty manufacturing facility for production of batteries in Chennai as a wing of AMCO is eloquent testimony to her managerial abilities and leadership qualities.
The TAFE POWER SOURCE in Maraimalai Nagar of which she is a Director boasts of being a prestigious centre with its three most modern plants to produce for almost all important applications includes automotive, telecommunication, UPS, inverter, stationary and the latest version of VRLA batteries. Her penchant for quality of global standard in all the products and passion for excellence are in evidence in these overtures. To crown it all she has recently signed a technical collaboration agreement with BB Battery Company of China for producing VRLA batteries. The quintessence of her management mode and approach smacks of well structured elegance, refinement and flamboyance with a panache for quality.
She has to her credit several academic distinctions and awards. She graduated as a rank holder and awarded the first place for her Masters theories in Business Economics for MA and Distinction in MBA from International Institute of Management (IMI) New Delhi. IMI conferred on her the Distinguished Alumnus Award in recognition of her dedicated and meritorious service to Business and Society, the only recipient in 25 years.
Jayshree is conspicuous in the corporate world as MC Member of MCCI in 2006-07, President of Madras Management Association for 2008-09 and is on the Board of Stella Maris College. She also exudes a flair for unobtrusive discharge of social responsibility, in her own ways impressively.
As she is truly a chip of the old bloc of her father Mr A Sivasailam, under her leadership AMCO becoming a 500 crore company by the year 2013 may not be a tall order.
In addition to her current responsibility as Chairman of AMCO, Ms. Jayshree is also a Director on the Board of Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE) and also Whole Time Director of TAFE Access Limited.
