  • (1888PressRelease) October 17, 2012 - Paul Perry of Jay's Moving and Storage has once again played a lead role in coordinating this year's World's Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics in Saskatchewan, which took place on September 15th 2012. He is very grateful for the support of Saskatchewan Trucking Association (STA) members who have rallied behind this event. "I don't know how to possibly even begin to thank them for all their efforts and contributions."

This year the event saw a record number of Saskatchewan trucks participating in the convoy with a total of 63 teams of truck and driver. This is an impressive total considering that in previous years between 40 and 50 trucks have taken part in the trek. The contingent from Jay's Moving and Storage consisted of 11 trucks and their drivers.

The Convoy route through Saskatchewan was the longest of all the events across Canada at 250 kilometres, rolling down Hwy 11 from Saskatoon to Regina. After the trucks and their drivers arrived at the Turvey Centre in Regina, the event incorporated a new competition; a truck pull. This was a timed event with teams of eight people competing to pull a 15-ton truck and trailer unit for 15 metres. The teams included one from the Regina Police, an all female team of tackle football players called the Regina Riot, a group of truck drivers, and a team of Special Olympics athletes.

Following the convoy and truck pull there was a BBQ featuring live coverage from radio stations CKRM and Big Dog. It was a great day with the Rough Rider Cheerleaders and mascot Gainer the gopher in attendance. Thanks in part to the addition of the truck pull; this year's event raised a record $42,500 for Special Olympics - almost twice last year's total. The drivers from Jay's raised over $4,200 in pledges and we would like to thank them and everyone who played a part in the 2012 World's Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics.
