Jamnabai Narsee School hosts 9th ICSE Western Region athletic meet-Arjuna awardee is Chief guest
Jamnabai Narsee School, under the aegis of the Association of ICSE Schools in Maharashtra brought together more than 1400 participants and athletes from across 50 schools of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, at Priyadarshini Park, Napean Sea Road.
- (1888PressRelease) October 10, 2010 - Commenting on the event, Mrs Sudeshna Chaterjee, Principal, JNS said that "We are delighted that sports as an integral part of education has been recognised by Government authorities and the affiliating board, and 25 marks are being added to the total at the level of the secondary board examination for participation and winning at the National Level. We hope that many amongst the students present here will indeed qualify to go to for thr National Level Athletic Meet to be held at Jamshedpur on 29- 31 st October."
Though this is the 9th year of the Western region athletics event, Jamnabai Narsee is hosting it for the first time as a continuation of its efforts to nurture and recognize budding sports talent in the country.
Mrs.Sudeshna Chatterjee confirmed that there will be 84 track and field events over 2 days, 6th and 7th of October 2010.
The Chief Guest for the event Smt. Rachita Mistry is an Arjuna Awardee, a Shiv Chhatrapati awardee and Eklavya Awardee.
She is an Olympian athlete who broke P.T.Usha's long standing record in 100mts. By clocking 11.26 seconds. She is still the current record holder in 100m run. She has represented India in four Asian Games and innumerable international Track and field events. She is the winner of 20 international Athletic medals.
Smt Rachita Mistry expressed her heart felt gratitude to all the participant and conveyed her blessings for a bright future.
