iSOCO collaborates with Ikastea, the new portal of the Basque Country educational community
Alongside the Basque firm Teccon, the IT company is responsible for developing the web platform of the Basque Government Department of Education, Universities and Research.
- (1888PressRelease) December 29, 2011 - Ikastea is centralising the large flow of information and educational resources available in a single site, segmenting content according to the target audience and enabling the participation of students, parents and teachers. The portal brings together the various sources of the educational universe and incorporates a variety of initiatives such as Open Data
The Ikastea project, a product of iSOCO's experience in offering technological solutions to facilitate access to information, is now underway. Ikastea provides users with all of the documentation and resources of the Basque Country's educational community, assembled on a single web portal that enables parents, students and teachers to participate. The content is presented by category to simplify access to the specific information requested.
Ikastea, defined as the educational aggregator site for the Basque Country, was presented a few days ago at the Miguel Unamuno Secondary School assembly hall, in Bilbao, by the Basque Regional Government's Minister of Education, Universities and Research, Isabel Celáa, as the new tool that gives continuity to the Department of Education's commitment to innovation, reflected, for instance, in the Eskola 2.0 scheme.
The platform, developed in conjunction with the Basque software company Teccon, incorporates information automatically and is fed by the content of various initiatives like Open Data and public access to official information, in the case of the catalogue of grants and scholarships. Likewise, it channels access to educational resources from the entire educational universe and from Hezkuntza itself (the Education Department), among other sources.
Thanks to iSOCO's long history in semantic technology, Ikastea includes new metaphors for the combined presentation of information from other systems. In addition, it classifies the sources of information to help users recover whatever data it is they need quickly and easily.
iSOCO, which specialises in developing technological applications to favour access to information, has introduced the possibility on Ikastea of classifying the data sources, so that the answer to any request can be found quickly through its Naveganza solution.
The incorporation of specialised search engines enables educational resources, teaching centres and any other required source to be found, taking usability criteria into account.
The advanced search engine that iSOCO has introduced on Ikastea improves usability on the basis of the analysis and recovery of words in Basque and Spanish according to the root meaning (lexeme) and not just pure coincidence with the term entered.
With this project the ICT firm has continued its consolidation as a leader in semantic web technology thanks to its constant research into new applications to optimise searching for online content within the current context of information overload.
