The GP recruitment office recently released new statistics stating the league tables of the deaneries for GP Specialist Training (GPST). The statistics proved that London and Northern Ireland were at the top of the league, with 2.93 applicants per post in London and 2.88 applicants per post in Northern Ireland. However, the Mersey deanery come bottom of the league table with just 1.04 applicants per post.
Olivier Picard, MD of ISC Medical, commented: "Overall the GPST selection process is still very competitive and we would strongly advise candidates to choose the deaneries they want to apply for carefully, as this will maximise their chances of getting their first choice deanery. Only those at the top of their game will stand a chance of getting a place in their first choice of deanery, and listing preferences in the wrong order may limit a candidate's ability to get a training post in one of their choices. Such candidates may well get a place through clearing but that is unlikely to be in a place which they favour."
