Irvine Welsh's Ecstasy will open Oaxaca FilmFest 2011
The Oaxaca International Independent Film and Video Festival announced its Official Selection.
- (1888PressRelease) August 20, 2011 - Rob Heydon's film Ecstasy will lead the way for the festival's second edition. The film is based on the best selling author Irvine Welsh's novel of the same name. Welsh is best known for Trainspotting.
Heydon's film stars Kristen Kruek (Lana Lang of Smallville) and Billy Boyd (From the Lord of The Rings Trilogy).
Ecstasy an official Canadian entry along with 2 other shorts will make their Latin American Premiere at the festival during the opening night festivities set for Teatro Juarez on Saturday evening November 12. Showing prior to Ecstasy the international audience will experience director Lyle Piso's insane animated short Wrecking Ball followed by Damon Mohl's experimental Apocalyptic The Dust Machine.
The Festival will be held from November 12 thru November 19 in 14 venues with the long and storied city of Oaxaca de Juarez setting the scene, the eight day competitive event provides a platform for both the talents of seasoned filmmakers as well as emerging artists to showcase their work.
This year the festival reviewed nearly 1000 submissions from over 60 countries. In the end the selection represents less than 15% of those projects submitted.
*47 Countries will be represented.
*Over 50% of the films will be World Premieres.
*Over 98% of the films are making their Latin America Premiere.
*Of the films screened before 90% have been selected by other International Film Festivals.
*Of these Films 85% have won awards at these Festivals.
*All work shown this year was produced in the last 12 months and includes animation-documentaries- and narratives in both short and feature formats.
This festival plans an exciting week including an "evento de Gala" at the 100 year old plus Teatro Macedonia Alcala with the highlight of the evening being Fernando Allende's (Of Televisa Fame) Maria.
During the week the city will come alive with film projections, round tables, and exclusive presentations. The week will be topped off with an award ceremony that includes 2 new editions this year. A script writing contest sponsored by Final Draft and a viewer's choice award sponsored by Noticias.
OAXACA FILMFEST is a uniquely successful cultural collaboration between both the private and public sectors of the International Community. Created by Filmmakers for Filmmakers, the Festival is the focal point of the dynamic and energized cinematic community that has emerged within the area over the last decade.
