Irvine Company Donates Latest Installment of $20 Million Pledge
Villages of Irvine Students Attend Award-Winning Schools; Pledge Provides Enhanced Art, Science and Music Education; Enrichment Funding Creates "Ripple Benefits" for Students.
- Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) January 24, 2015 - Representatives from the Irvine Company recently presented the Irvine Unified School District with a check for $2.15 million, the latest installment of a 10-year, $20-million Excellence in Education Enrichment Fund pledge for enhanced art, science and music education across the district.
Robin Leftwich, vice president of Community Affairs for the Irvine Company, presented the check to the IUSD Board of Education at its January 13 meeting. She noted, "The Irvine Company creates master-planned communities that enable residents to live, work and play - and just as important, learn." She added, "Our goal has always been to create sustainable communities that help our children learn and flourish and achieve their dreams, and the Excellence in Education Enrichment Fund is playing an important role in realizing that goal."
Citing the annual Excellence in Education Enrichment Fund Assessment published by IUSD, Leftwich noted the "ripple effect" benefits of the company's enrichment funding, including:
- In 2014, 110 IUSD students earned scholarships through the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Corp, joining an elite group that represents less than 1 percent of all U.S. high school seniors.
- 2014 marked the second year in a row that Northwood High School was selected as a Grammy Signature School by the Grammy Foundation. The foundation has awarded 10 Grammy Signature awards to IUSD high schools - more than any other California district.
- For the second year in a row, University High School emerged victorious in the Regional Science Bowl at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.
- At the 2014 Orange County Science & Engineering Fair Awards, IUSD students earned 49 of 154 awards presented.
- In April 2014, more than 700 IUSD students performed in the 31st annual Donald Bren Honors Concert in Costa Mesa, which sold out for the sixth consecutive year.
