- (1888PressRelease) November 09, 2010 - Iraq Mega Projects 2010 Conference & Exhibition took place in Istanbul, Turkey, on 26-28 October. The event promised to be the gathering for service companies to meet the mega project holders; this did not fail to live up to expectation. Representatives of the contract holders came as delegates to support the gathering, though low profile they were able to see what the service companies have to offer and it was also impossible to miss the vast number of high level participants gathered in Istanbul.
The opening of the conference set the precedence for the two days of discussions and networking opportunities, each coffee and lunch break was packed with professional Iraqi's keen to exchange business cards and do deals. The cruise on the Bosphorus River sponsored by Caterpillar was an enjoyable evening that set a relaxed atmosphere for delegates to socialise and make potential deals, whilst taking in the sites of Istanbul.
H.E. Taner Yildiz the Turkish Minister of Energy & Natural Resources spoke about the strong ties amongst Turkey and Iraq and the plans to improve relations further. "I am strongly convinced that such an event will create a great opportunity and enhance the relations between Turkey and Iraq and give further opportunities for Turkish companies in Iraq. Turkish companies have always held a place in the Iraqi market despite the old difficulties and our companies believe there is a need to generate their existence more strongly there now". His Excellency was represented by the Deputy Minister Mr Sefa Sadik Aytekin.
In particular there were outstanding presentations from Dr Ahmed Ibrihi Ali Al Alwash of the CBI, John Macgregor Scott of Foster Wheeler and Dr Asri Mousa, that revealed the true extent of the cross ties with these contracts and the many sectors that will have to work in cohesion to assist the rebuilding of Iraq.
This first gathering involved the major stakeholders in the energy industry, some of who are currently stationed in Iraq and those that are looking to enter. Over 350 delegates attended the conference and the sold out exhibition meant there is certainly a scope for the programme to be developed on for next year. A unique aspect of Iraq Mega Projects was the interactive workshop- Implementation of Iraq Mega Projects in Iraq's Legal, Banking, Insurance and Governance environment, this took place on the final day of the event. This was hugely successful with eight Iraqi experts looking in detail at the contracts to find potential pitfalls and offering solutions to the participant's questions on local Iraqi practises.
Iraq is pushing forward and is determined to fulfil their targeted petroleum quotas; Iraq Mega Projects is dedicated in doing all it can to assist in any way possible to ensure that the many sectors involved come together, work as a team and have executed plans correctly to ensure the correct implementation of the contracts.
