Saar-Hartmetall’s newly developed carbide cutting ring has helped save TMK-Ipsco over $1.5 million per year.
(1888PressRelease) August 07, 2008 - WILDER, KY - TMK-Ipsco, a major manufacturer of OCTG products and formerly known as Ipsco Tubular, reported today that the implementation of a newly developed carbide cutting ring from Saar-Hartmetall for the ID-scarfing of pipe sizes 7" - 16" will result in cost savings in excess of $1,500,000 per year.
TMK-Ipsco converted their 16" mill over to the new Saar-Hartmetall tooling in November 2007 and has not experienced a single catastrophic tool failure yet. "Do not be surprised if this tool is in every pipe mill at Ipsco at some point," said Bill Tungate, 6-Sigma black belt and leader of the Scarfing Improvement Team.
