IoD members back Cameron veto
Prime Minister David Cameron's move to veto changes to the European Union (EU) treaty in order to safeguard the City of London has been backed by the Institute of Directors (IoD).
- (1888PressRelease) December 24, 2011 - According to an IoD poll, three-quarters of its members approved of Cameron's veto, with 46% strongly agreeing. Of the more than 1,000 members polled, 19% were opposed to his actions.
In addition, the survey showed that 85% of Britain's leading directors think the crisis in the Eurozone will continue to rumble on, despite the plans drawn up by France and Germany to prop up the single currency.
As for the impact the crisis is having on UK firms, 53% of those polled say their business is not being affected, while 42 per cent believe it is.
"The UK's relationship with Europe is dominated by political and economic uncertainty but the business verdict is very clear. Almost two-thirds of IoD members want to see a looser relationship with the EU," said Graeme Leach, Director of Policy at the IoD.
