Duo Talitha Rise comprises the musical prowess of Jo Beth Young and Martyn Barker, who launch a video for their single filmed on the Sussex coast.
(1888PressRelease) October 19, 2016 - Talitha Rise is Jo-Beth Young and Martyn Barker, who are working together on the band's first album due for release in the spring of 2017.
Jo Beth Young, raised in a Sussex village, is a singer-songwriter who also provides guitar, bass, keyboard, ukulele and dulcimer on her tracks. Her vocal range evokes an emotional response in audiences as she performs mesmerising harmonies and a raw and authentic mix of battle cries and lullabies, reflecting on what she says are the 'terminal condition of being alive'.
Martyn Barker first rose to fame as the drummer in North London new wave band Shriekback, before he joined King Swamp in 1988 and the band's first single went to number 21 in the Billboard chart. Barker has worked with many names including Billy Bragg, Robert Plant, Marianne Faithfull and Goldfrapp.
Fatea Magazine, which has been published since 1990, reviews albums by emerging and established artists and runs showcases and the Cambridge Folk Festival, says of Talitha Rise: "The first song left me breathless. Their songs are ethereal, intricately complex and with the help of beautiful harmonies, echo and pure musicianship they both produce a full sound that many full bands fail to achieve".
