  • (1888PressRelease) July 30, 2011 - The Alberta Cancer Foundation has chosen to honor Jesse Willms by putting his company on their Donor Wall in recognition of the philanthropic work he has done on their behalf.

"It is truly an honor for my company to be recognized by the Alberta Cancer Foundation," Willms said. "They are one of the most hard working and deserving organizations in our area. They help save lives every day."

The Alberta Cancer Foundation is in charge of all of the Alberta Health Services cancer centers including the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary, Grande Prairie Cancer Centre, Central Alberta Cancer Centre (Red Deer), Medicine Hat Cancer Centre and Jack Ady Cancer Centre (Lethbridge), as well as 11 community cancer centers.

"More than 70 percent of the money they use goes to funding cancer research," Willms said. "That's very important because it will help us eventually make cancer a thing of the past."

Through his company, Terra Marketing Group, Willms has raised $5,200 for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. A few of his staff members also took part in the "Underwear Affair" this year, where people ran track in their underwear to raise awareness for the foundation.

"I plan to participate in many more events sponsored by the Alberta Cancer Foundation and help them raise more money and awareness in the future," Willms said. "I want to know I have done all I can to help them win this fight."

Willms is a well-known member of the Alberta business community. He started his own business in his parents' basement when he was 16 years old. By the time he was 22 he had turned it into Terra Marketing Group, a successful online marketing company.

He was inspired by the words of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, who challenged successful entrepreneurs to find ways to give back to the community. Since then he has participated in numerous charitable events and donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to non-profit organizations.

"What matters in life is not how much you earn," Willms said. "It's how much you give back to your community. Living a good life is about being a good friend, a good neighbor and a good citizen. That is my goal. I want to do everything I can to make the world a better place."

Willms said that he is also proud of his employees at Terra Marketing Group who were able to partake in the Underwear Affair, and helped raise awareness for the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

"Everyone at Terra Marketing Group is dedicated to helping our community," Willms said. "I am very proud of the charitable instincts of my team."
