The meeting was widely attended by industry insiders and health care professionals around the world and served as the platform for the launch of Covidien Japan's ClosureFast™ catheter and generator. Dr. Elias is one of the world experts in the Closurefast procedure. It is a minimally invasive procedure to treat varicose veins.
Covidien's Venefit™ targeted endovenous segmental ablation therapy using the ClosureFast™ catheter and generator is a minimally invasive therapy that is used to treat chronic venous insufficiency (CVI)-a condition that is often preceded by varicose veins. Steve Elias, MD FACS FACPh delivered the keynote speech at a luncheon symposium and shared the clinical benefits of ClosureFast with all of the attendees at the Japanese meeting.
Following the Japanese Society of Phlebology meeting, Dr. Elias held a Train the Trainer event in which eight key Japanese vascular surgeons were taught the Venefit™ procedure technique by Dr. Elias. This treatment utilizes radiofrequency (RF) energy to uniformly distribute heat to the diseased vein walls in the legs of a patient with varicose veins. The diseased veins are sealed by the heat so that blood will flow through healthy veins instead, thus reducing the pain and appearance of varicose veins. An expert in vein disease and technology, Dr. Elias answered questions and concerns from physicians and industry leaders present regarding the modern management of vein disease.

Dr. Steve Elias (MD FACS FACPh) Director, Center for Vein Disease and the Wound Care Center of Englewood Hospital, NJ, was named by VEIN Magazine as one of the 25 most influential professionals in vein care worldwide and Voted "Best Doctor" for 3 consecutive years by New York Magazine. Dr. Elias lectures, publishes, and teaches extensively about minimally invasive vein care and procedures. As Course Director of the American Venous Forum's Annual Vascular Fellows Course in Venous Disease, he trains young vascular surgeons in the treatment of vein problems. He is also a Founding Director of the Expert Venous Management Course that teaches physicians advanced, complex vein care management. His clinical interests encompass all aspects of vein care: spider veins, varicose veins,perforator and deep venous incompetence, and venous ulcers.
He performs all minimally invasive vein procedures and his work at the Englewood's Hospitals Center for Vein Disease also includes the prevention and treatment of DVT (Deep Venous Thrombosis). Dr. Elias is a fellowship-trained vascular surgeon and member of the American Venous Forum, the American College of Phlebology, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, and the International Society of Cardiovascular Surgery.
