International Youth Day at Way to Transform Shridhar University Pilani Rajasthan
No one has doubt that India Today's Young Achievers are indeed India tomorrow's Icons of success.
- (1888PressRelease) August 23, 2011 - UN International Youth Day is celebrated on August 12 each year to recognize efforts of world's youth to enhance global society and promote ways to engage them in becoming more actively involved in making positive contributions to their communities. The United Nations defines the worlds' youth as the age group between 15 and 24 years old, making up one-sixth of the human population.
"Change Our World" has been chosen as the theme for International Youth Day - IYD 2011 as it not only expresses the level of impact that young people strive to achieve, but also reflects the notion of a global community that is a core principle of the United Nation. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's message for IYD goes as "Failing to invest in our youth is a false economy. Investments in young people will pay great dividends in a better future for all."
Shridhar University, Pilani aims to be a top ranking institution in providing the transformational experience for the finest education and training in science, technology and arts to the next generation of independent and critical thinking scholars who will emerge as leaders and innovators in all walks of life. Towards achieving the same, the university has a rich tradition of observing various International Days to bring awareness to the enrolled students and thus prepare them for a global future.
For IYD 2011, Shridhar University received messages from four CNN - IBN Young Indian Leaders 2011 award winners namely Anshu Jamsenpa, Ajay Chaturvedi, Prashant Kumar Dubey and Sarathbabu
32 year old Anshu Jamsenpa from Arunachal Pradesh, mother of two created a niche in her field by becoming the first mother woman mountaineer in the world to reach the summit of Mt Everest not once but twice within a span of just 10 days. Anshu indeed proved with her grit and determination that when a mission is taken up with passion there are no peaks too tall to conquer. Her IYD message to Shridhar University students was "Dream, Dare and Win".
Ajay Chaturvedi Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani - Wharton alumnus launched HarVa to bring about a social transformation by harnessing value of Rural India that faces significant social, economic and ecological challenges. Ajay's message to Shridhar University students was "Youth in India today have an important role to play in the rural transformation of India and they must take up the challenge for making a better India tomorrow".
Prashant Kumar Dubey is a well known RTI crusader from Bhopal who brought the issue of child malnutrition in Madhya Pradesh to the forefront. In his message, Prashant said "I urge the students of Shridhar University to not only think about their individual development but also spare a thought for development of the downtrodden for the larger task of nation building. Children of present are the hopes of future and if someone who thinks can address issues of poverty, hunger and corruption, they should take it forward without waiting any further".
Starting with humble beginnings full of struggle from a slum in Chennai, Sarathbabu who has been Pepsi - MTV youth icon 2008 alumnus of BITS - IIM Ahmedabad rejecting the lucrative campus placement job, launched Food King Catering a mission with passion to generate employment which has today grown in a big way. His message to students of Shridhar University Pilani said "Only a broad based integrated interdisciplinary education can transform youth in India today to become change makers for the larger task of social and economic transformation".
Prof BR Natarajan Pro Vice Chancellor thanked the four Young Indian Leaders 2011 award winners for sparing their valuable time to inspire the students of Shridhar University Pilani.
