  • Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) January 18, 2011 - While schools in the United Kingdom, Italy, and Japan offer saké sommelier certification courses, the International Wine Guild (IWG) believes it is the first U.S.-based institution to offer this certification. This exciting announcement from the IWG comes at a time when Americans' taste for high-quality saké is growing exponentially, even as it wanes in Japan. In addition to the new saké sommelier certification courses, the IWG has announced other new courses for 2011. Among these is one of the nation's first fine spirits sommelier certification courses, including a basic certification seminar and an advanced spirits sommelier certification.

The sake and fine spirits sommelier courses will be offered beginning in the Spring quarter on the downtown Denver campus. Instructors include some of the world's most accomplished sommeliers, some of whom have trained White House staff and taught at highly-regarded institutions across the world.

"We are incredibly excited to offer these new sommelier certification courses," said Claude Robbins, president of the International Wine Guild. "As far as we can tell, we are the only institution in the United States offering saké and fine spirits sommelier certifications. With the addition of these courses, we hope to attract an even broader range of students."

Mr. Robbins encourages potential students to download the 2011 course schedule from the International Wine Guild's website. With these new seminars and courses the Guild will now be offering 24 different professional wine, saké and spirits courses.
