International Franchise Basketball Player, Ron Slay, Returns Home to Nashville to Promote Healthy Living in Youth
Ronald Slay along with NBA & NFL friends come home to endorse youth healthy living by hosting one-day Sports Clinic.
- Nashville, TN (1888PressRelease) July 19, 2011 - In an effort to help eradicate unhealthy habits amongst Nashville's youth, The Ron Slay Foundation along with the B.R.I.A.N. Group and Greater Grace Temple Community Church have joined together to host the first Celebrity Youth Basketball and Football Camp. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday July 22nd at Pearl Cohn High School (904 26th Ave N.) from 9:00am-3pm. Proceeds from the event will directly support the mission of the Ron Slay Foundation non-profit organization, along with the Kix and Back Pack Giveaway July 31st. The fee to attend the Celebrity Youth Basketball and Football Camp is $35 in advance and $40 day of. The Basketball portion of the camp is available for children ages 10-17 and the Football portion of the camp is available for children ages 7-13. Participating in the Celebrity Youth Basketball and Football Camp alongside Ron are NBA and NFL friends, Oakland Raider's John Henderson, Pittsburgh Steelers' Ramon Foster, Chicago Bulls' CJ Watson, St. Louis Rams' Renardo Foster and San Antonio Spurs' Marcus Haislip.

It's the goal of The Ron Slay Foundation to host the Celebrity Youth Basketball and Football Camp annually in Nashville. With every progressing year, the Foundation is interested in bringing on more partners to better serve more children. About Ron Slay:
College Career
Ron Slay played for prep powerhouse Oak Hill Academy before heading to the University of Tennessee. As a freshman in 1999-2000, Slay averaged 9.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game as the Volunteers went 26-7 and won the SEC. In the 2000 NCAA Tournament, Slay and the Vols made their first Sweet Sixteen appearance since 1981. The next season, Slay upped his averages to 12.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He was named third team all-conference and team MVP.
Slay was poised to have another strong year as a junior, as he became a regular starter for the Volunteers and again showed improvement in his production, raising his averages to 14.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Slay had a breakout year as a senior. He averaged 21.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and was named the Associated Press SEC Player of the Year and a third team All-American.
Professional Career
Following the conclusion of his college career, Slay went undrafted in the 2003 NBA Draft. He took part in the Orlando Summer League as a member of the Miami Heat's entry. He instead signed with Galatasaray Café Crown of the Turkish Basketball League. This began an international basketball career that would take Slay to Israel, Venezuela, Italy, Spain, and Puerto Rico. Slay also played a season for the Asheville Altitude of the NBDL, where he was named second team all-league.
