International Day of Peace 2012 - Sangam University Bhilwara Rajasthan
Peace is not just yet another 5 letter word but a "divine manifestation which we have to give birth to within ourselves". The theme chosen this year for celebrations is "Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future."
- (1888PressRelease) September 27, 2012 - Each year the International Day of Peace is observed all over the world on 21 September. The United Nations General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. No one has doubt that there can be no sustainable future without a sustainable peace which must be built on sustainable development.
The root causes of many conflicts are directly related to or fuelled by valuable natural resources, such as diamonds, gold, oil, timber or water. Addressing the ownership, control and management of natural resources is crucial to maintaining security and restoring the economy in post-conflict countries. The International Day of Peace offers people globally a shared date to think about how, individually, they can contribute to ensuring that natural resources are managed in a sustainable manner, thus reducing potential for disputes, and paving the road to a sustainable future, the "Future We Want".
On the occasion of International Day of Peace, Professor BR Natarajan President - Vice Chancellor shared with the faculty and students of ITM Sangam University Bhilwara, the significance of the day which included the message of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Professor Natarajan also highlighted the significance associated with OM the mystical and sacred Sanskrit sound as well as the number 108 which is a very interesting both metaphysically and mathematically.
The Om chant is considered to be a chant of life, bringing together and healing for those who do the chant and for the environment around them. Om is said to be the primordial sound of the life force itself. Pronounced more as "aum," the toning of it activates particular chakras from the body base on through the top of the head, activating, unifying and connecting a person's energy within themselves and to the larger force of life of creation itself.
Religiously for the Buddhists, Hindus and others, 108 is said to refer to the one unity (1), the emptiness of nothing (0) and the infinity of all (8). A strand of Tibetan Buddhist prayer beads, called a "mala," consists of 108 beads. According to biblical numerology, 108 is six times the number of letters of "Chai" (18) which means "Life" in Hebrew. Mathematically, 108 is a hyper factorial of three, a Tetranacci number, a Harshad number, and a Self number, and it also results in the Golden Ratio. Further, the distance between earth and sun is said to be 108 times sun-diameter, the distance between earth and moon is said to be 108 times moon-diameter, and most remarkably diameter of the sun is said to be 108 times the earth diameter.
Students and faculty at ITM - Sangam University Bhilwara enthusiastically participated in reciting OM 108 times for the larger cause of world peace.
