International College Of Manitoba Offers Pre Arrival Steps to Indian Students
Studying in a Canada is a fantastic opportunity for international students looking to get a high-quality education at an affordable price.
- (1888PressRelease) October 12, 2012 - For many students this may be their first time overseas and may therefore have many questions about how to prepare for their new experience in Canada.
At the International College of Manitoba (ICM), we assist our students with this transition by offering a Pre-Departure Guide directly on our website at www.icmanitoba.ca as well as host interactive webinars to allow one-on-one question and answer sessions. Some of the key information from these sessions follows:
Pre-Arrival Steps to Success
1. Have you booked your accommodations? Accommodations may be something you're interested in booking only once your visa has been approved; however we strongly encourage students to book their housing when accepting ICM's offer. On-campus accommodations book up quickly, often several months prior to the program start date. For students who only want to live on campus it is in their best interest to apply for residence prior to applying for their visa. Waiting until the visa is approved may limit the number of available housing options. It's also extremely important to also book alternative accommodations if you plan on arriving prior to when your booked accommodations are available. The last thing you want is to arrive without a place to stay.
2. Have you received your visa? You can apply directly through the Canadian High Commission or with help from a local representative. It is recommended that students apply for their visa early (at least two months prior to the course start date) to avoid any unnecessary processing delays.
3. Have you registered in classes? Once you've received your visa, you can successfully register in your classes with ICM. This can be done online through our Student Portal resource!
4. Have you confirmed your airport pickup? When you arrive you can safely hail a taxi cab and they will take you to your local destination. You can alternatively pre-arrange airport pickup prior to arriving.
5. Have you confirmed your Canadian addresses and contact numbers? When you arrive in Winnipeg you will need to know your local addresses and contact numbers to provide to the person who picks you up at the airport.
6. Have you visited our website to become familiar with the orientation dates and class start times? It is necessary you join us at Orientation to make new friends, get familiarized with your new environment, meet ICM staff, and have fun! Information about banking, student cards, on-campus Wi-Fi access, health coverage, etc., will be also be covered at orientation.
7. Enjoy your new opportunity. Relax and spend the last days at home with family and friends. Make sure you have all their contact information so you can remain connected abroad.
Have a safe and pleasant journey to Canada and we look forward to welcoming you at ICM!
