Interdependence at the Heart of 2018 Intersections for Growth

The event demonstrates the interdependence between rural, urban and First Nations communities in Saskatchewan. These relationships support the economy and policies at a local, regional and provincial level.
- (1888PressRelease) April 24, 2018 - The Saskatchewan Economic Development Alliance (SEDA) and the Saskatchewan First Nations Economic Development Network (SFNEDN) are co-hosting this conference in Saskatoon, May 2–3. The event demonstrates the interdependence between rural, urban and First Nations communities in Saskatchewan. These relationships support the economy and policies at a local, regional and provincial level.
Featuring 30 presenters over two days, the conference aims to inspire professionals and leaders to be early adopters, capitalizing on the trends and opportunities ahead of the curve to maintain healthy, vibrant communities and regions.
The conference will start with Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark and Treaty Commissioner Mary exploring economic development as a bridge to reconciliation. The inaugural Economic Development Reconciliation and Partnership awards will be presented during this session.
From Business Improvement Districts to Airships in Northern Saskatchewan, a diverse program of sessions will engage leaders from across the province. Presentation highlights will include:
• Adam Orens, founding partner of Denver-based Marijuana Policy Group on the socio-economic impact of legalizing recreational cannabis;
• Ifor Ffowcs-Williams, CEO and founder of New Zealand-based Cluster Navigators, on how to leverage clusters of businesses to foster innovation and economic growth; and
• the ‘digital divide’ for rural and remote Saskatchewan businesses, from Shawn Beaton of Canadian Internet Registration Authority and Neil McLughan of the Saskatchewan Research Network.
