Integrative Psychiatrist Richard P. Brown Teaches Meditation for Trauma Relief at NY Insight Meditation Center
Breath~Body~MindŽ enhanced meditation for physical and psychic pain relief is the subject of a two-day workshop for therapists and the public.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) June 21, 2012 - Richard P. Brown, MD, a New York psychiatrist who practices integrative medicine, will present a two-day workshop for therapists and the public on Friday and Saturday June 22 and 23, 2012 at New York Insight Meditation Center, 28 West 27th Street, 10th floor, Manhattan, New York, entitled "Enhance Your Meditation with Breath~Body~MindŽ." The Friday session is from 7 pm to 9 pm; the Saturday session is from 10 am to 5 pm. There will be teacher support following the Buddhist Dana tradition.
The Breath~Body~MindŽ workshop will combine movement and breathing meditations. The core technique will be Coherent Breathing (see coherence.com), a modern form of anapanasati practiced by advanced Thai Buddhist monks. This practice, described in a Chinese text 3000 years ago and followed by Zen monks, was independently rediscovered by two modern research groups. The effects of Coherent Breathing are magnified by combining it with advanced breathing techniques from yoga, Qi Gong, and Russian Orthodox monks to bring the body's systems into optimal balance and a higher energy state. Another component of the workshop will be Open Focus meditation developed by Les Fehmi, PhD, one of the fathers of biofeedback and a Zen teacher. Open Focus induces EEG patterns similar to those found in advanced, long-term meditation practitioners. Deeper, richer meditative states can help relieve physical and psychic pain.
