Inserra Supermarkets Joins Hackensack and Ramsey Residents in March Wellness and Weight Loss Challenges
ShopRite Stores to Serve as Confidential Weigh-In Centers.
- Bergen-Passaic, NJ (1888PressRelease) February 26, 2014 - Inserra Supermarkets is teaming up with the Borough of Ramsey and City of Hackensack for their community-wide wellness and weight-loss challenges. ShopRite of Ramsey and ShopRite of Hackensack will serve as confidential weigh-in centers for program registrants, who are required to have their weight-loss recorded every week or bi-weekly, respectively.
Ramsey is challenging adults who live, work or study in the township to join together to collectively lose 450 pounds, while Hackensack is proposing a city-wide 500-pound weight loss. Both 12-week programs emphasize healthy eating, exercise and a joint community effort. There is no special diet, menu requirements, fees or individual goals.
"This program is designed to not only raise awareness about healthy living, it brings members of the community together to inspire and support one another while working toward a common goal," said Emily Johnston, R.D., C.D.E., retail dietitian at ShopRite of Hackensack. "Inserra Supermarkets is committed to being the community's one-stop resource and helping our customers to achieve their wellness and weight-loss goals."
Each month, dietitians at Inserra's ShopRite supermarkets host a series of events for the general public designed to promote healthy eating and exercise. In addition to small group and one-on-one counseling, they host cooking classes, recipe demonstrations, pantry makeover seminars and group and one-on-one in-store aisle tours. The stores also offer expanded heart-healthy Chef Express menu choices. During the course of each week, Inserra's culinary team creates flavorful, nutritious ready-to-heat entrees that appeal to customers on-the-go.
Johnston added, "Our goal is to provide healthy food selections often associated with specialty stores for the whole family, at competitive prices, in our customers' own backyard. This way, it won't be perceived as a 'chore' to look, feel and be one's best!"
Weigh-ins will be held at ShopRite of Hackensack beginning March 17 on Wednesdays, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. ShopRite of Ramsey will hold weigh-ins beginning March 11 on Tuesdays, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesdays, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and Fridays, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, contact the Ramsey Board of Health at (201) 825-2246 or visit http://www.hackensack.org/ or lightenupramsey.com.
