Inroads To Opportunities Welcomes New Board Member
The Board of Directors of Inroads to Opportunities is pleased to welcome Dawn Walter as its newest Board Member.
- Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) May 14, 2024 - The Board of Directors of Inroads to Opportunities is pleased to welcome Dawn Walter as its newest Board Member. Inroads to Opportunities is a Union County, NJ-based non-profit human services agency that provides programs and services to over 400 individuals with various types of disabilities. The individuals range in age from 16 through retirement, many of whom are economically disadvantaged. Programs and services include vocational preparation, transition from school to work, certificate training programs, day habilitation, and mental health services.
For the past five years, Dawn has owned and operated her own bookkeeping company, ‘Adds Up Bookkeeping LLC.’ She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics with a concentration in Accounting from Rutgers University-New Brunswick.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dawn has dedicated over two decades to volunteer work within the Cranford Public School system, serving as PTA Treasurer and actively participating in fundraising, organizing school sports nights, arranging book sales, etc. Her hands-on experience in fundraising and community engagement will be instrumental in supporting Inroads' mission and expanding its outreach efforts.
Dawn's husband, Chuck, has served on the Inroads Board for twenty-five years. Inroads has always served as an inspiration for Dawn and she recalls being impressed by its facilities.
In her role as a Board Member, the Board of Directors anticipates leveraging Dawn’s strengths in finance, problem-solving and fundraising to drive positive change and foster growth within the organization. Her unwavering dedication and passion for making a difference will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on Inroads, its participants and the community.
According to Inroads Board Chair, Jill Schafhauser, “Dawn is a welcomed addition to our Board of Directors. We look forward to her strategic insights and guidance to positively impact Inroads and the people we serve.”

Since 1959, the Occupational Center of Union County, DBA Inroads to Opportunities, has been providing programs and services to over 400 individuals with various types of disabilities and ranging in age from 16 through retirement, many of whom are economically disadvantaged. Celebrating its 65th year, Inroads to Opportunities is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an approved provider of the NJ Department of Labor, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, and Commission of the Blind and Visually Impaired. Inroads is licensed by the State of New Jersey Department of Human Services, NJ Division of Mental Health, and Addiction Services to provide partial care and the Division of Developmental Disabilities to provide Day Habilitation, Pre-Vocational and Transportation Services. Inroads is an approved Medicaid provider and an approved Employment Network under the Ticket to Work Social Security initiative and an approved Benefits Planning and Counseling Service through the NJ Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services.
