Innovative Young CEO Continues To Drive Forward An Organisation Created To Better The Lives Of Local Communities Through Physical Activities
A UK based visionary committed to improving the lives of some of the most difficult to reach community groups is continuing to lead a range of impactive and innovative projects through her role as the CEO of the non-profit organisation, 'The Activ Collaborative'.
- (1888PressRelease) August 01, 2013 - CEO of the community organisation, Shakira Sturgess, has through her work with the organisation, found an effective platform from which to make a positive impact on the lives of community groups. Shakira Sturgess has always had a strong social conscience and a drive to utilise her life long passion and interest in well-being, health and fitness.
Having spent her formative years growing up in Kings Cross area of London, Shakira had a desire to develop her knowledge of health, ignited by the passing away of her father, which then led on to formal study resulting in Shakira achieving a Bsc in Health Management. Having leveraged her qualifications to fantastic ends, she spent several years travelling, during which time Shakira developed as a person and spent time volunteering in an orphanage before returning home and continuing formal study in Social Anthropology.
With health at the forefront of her interests, her work as an Ambassador for Sports within the Local Authority illuminated the existing scope for driving forward community projects, which were to have a huge positive impact on the well-being of communities.
This lead to the title of 'Social Entrepreneur' sticking to Shikira's reputation. Within a short period of time Shakira Sturgess' commitment and vision was rewarded by the School of Social Entrepreneurs Lloyds Programme, which recognised her drive to make a difference and awarded her a place on the programme and supported the work of 'The Activ Collaborative'.
'The Activ Collaborative' has successfully made a positive difference to the lives of community groups through innovative projects such as the recent 'Fresh Air & Friendship' walking group. Currently, the non-profit organisation is concentrating on encouraging ethnic groups and the older demographic within communities to become more physically active and improve their well-being.
