Initial testing at the RWE & TURCAS Denizli Power Plant to begin in July 2012

  • (1888PressRelease) December 05, 2011 - Dr. Ralph Jaeger, CFO of RWE Turkey, updated members of press on the progress of the RWE & TURCAS Natural Gas Combined Cycle Power Plant, saying that the construction was on schedule. Jaeger said that the plant was expected to be commissioned by the end of 2012 as planned and added that they were happy to make a contribution to the expanding economy of Denizli.

    Jaeger said, “Economy in Denizli has been booming, and we believe the province is the right place to invest in. Although the plant is still under construction, we are already contributing to the local economy with our employees and suppliers. Throughout the projected 40-year lifespan of the plant, we believe we will provide a stable, long-term development potential to the region and to the Turkish economy in general.”

    Hermann-Josef Thieltges, Chief Technological Officer of RWE&TURCAS Güney Elektrik Üretim A.S., said that 1 million man-hours of construction took place until now, adding, “The initial combustion testing of gas turbines are scheduled for July 2012, followed by steam turbine testing in August 2012. Construction progresses at full speed with 18 main Turkish suppliers and a crew of 750, which is the highest number of employees we had so far. We are proud that 25% of these employees are from Kaklik and its environs.”

    Thieltges added that the Visitor Center adjacent to the power plant was open to everyone, and that members of press or any interested individual could go to the center for information.

    Serra Akkoç, Public Relations Manager of RWE & TURCAS, said that they were striving to contribute to social development in the region as well as its economy, and reminded their ongoing support of the Denizlispor sports club. Akkoç said, “We had a fulfilling partnership with Denizlispor last year, wherein we helped the youth take part in social life. This year, we support Denizlispor and the Kaklik Belediyespor to encourage our youth to take part in sports.”

    Akkoç spoke of the education projects of RWE & TURCAS in Denizli, and explained, “As you know, we signed a protocol with the Governor’s Office of Denizli, the Municipality of Kaklik and the Kaklik Parent-Teacher Association in June to sponsor the construction of 23 new classrooms. 18 of these will be an extension to the Kaklik Primary School, and 5 to its sister school, the Sehit Eyüp Altun Primary School. When complete, this project will provide better schooling conditions for 800 children in Kaklik. The new classrooms will be opened for the 2012–2013 academic year.”
