Infosys Internship Program To Build Next Generation Of Technology And Business Skills For New South Wales

(1888PressRelease) November 02, 2012 - Sydney, Australia and Hyderabad, India - November 1, 2012: New South Wales university students will get the chance to live, travel and work on cutting-edge technology projects in India through InStep NSW, a new internship program announced today by Infosys and NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell.

Built on an award-winning internship program from Infosys, InStep NSW will be unique because it is aimed at fostering ideas and building skills that will help expand the NSW economy. Local universities will nominate both student candidates and project topics based on their potential to spur economic growth.

Mr. O'Farrell said the InStep program was a great initiative that would not only benefit the students, but also help build stronger ties between India and NSW.

"The NSW students will gain professional skills during the internships and learn just as much by working alongside and interacting with their Indian colleagues during the internship," said Mr. O'Farrell. "InStep NSW will help students develop a greater understanding of Asia, which we know is going to be of great importance as international business focuses increasingly on the region."

InStep NSW will select three to five students each year to experience one-on-one mentorship from Infosys researchers and managers. Students will work on real-world strategic projects, with topics selected by universities as critical for the NSW economy, such as cloud computing or big data. They will spend 8-10 weeks during the Australian summer living and working in an Infosys campus in India. Infosys will sponsor the students' travel, visas, stipend and housing.

"InStep NSW is designed to give students a 'money-can't-buy' practical experience," said Infosys Senior Vice President and Country Head for Australia and New Zealand Jackie Korhonen. "This program will be invaluable to building the technical, cultural and business competency that our next generation of Australian leaders will need. As an engineering student at the University of Sydney many years ago, I took up the opportunity to live and work overseas for a year. It was one of the best decisions of my life."

Infosys, a global leader in consulting and technology with more than 2400 employees based in Australia, is currently in discussions with universities in NSW regarding the nomination of students and topics.
