- (1888PressRelease) September 27, 2010 - Indusladies.com, the largest online community for Indian Women has joined hands with Forum for Breast Cancer Protection (FBCP) to conduct an innovative online Breast Cancer Awareness campaign that is estimated to reach a million women during October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Based on the latest data available with the Indian Council for Medical Research, Breast Cancer is the commonest cancer among urban women in India. As per National Cancer Registry, 1 Lakh Women are diagnosed with Breast Cancer every year. 60% of those diagnoses are at an advanced stage with less than 15% chance of survival. If those women have been diagnosed early, their survival chances are more than 90%.
An estimated 50,000 lives can be saved nationally if Breast Cancer is detected early. "With our ability to reach more than a million Indian Women, we felt that we can make a substantial impact on increasing awareness. Indusladies being a women's community, Breast cancer impacts our audience the most. Being the most curable form of cancer, it is in excusable not to save every life that can be saved", says Malathy Jey, Founder of Indusladies.com.
Forum for Breast Cancer Protection (FBCP) is the only non-governmental organization exclusively focused on spreading breast cancer awareness among Indian Women. Several eminent doctors and medical professionals from institutes and hospitals like AIIMS, Sir Gangaram Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute joined together and started FBCP in 2001. FBCP is chaired by Dr. Ramesh Sarin, Senior Consultant Oncologist at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals (Delhi) and co-chaired by Dr. Col. C.S. Pant(Delhi), are playing a key role in the organization of this campaign. Dr. Sarin said, "The need for awareness among Indian women is absolutely desperate. The surprising thing is that this lack of awareness is not just among uneducated, rural women. Even urban, educated and sophisticated women are unbelievably ignorant on these things"
The campaign is conducted in a very innovative and unique way that magnifies the reach. As part of the campaign, Women can take an Online Breast Cancer Quiz and can get entered to win free T-Shirts and Caps. In the campaign page, women will also have access to a "Breast Self-Examination" video that is narrated by well known mainstream TV artists Shweta Keswani, Sakshi Tanwar and Apra Mehta. Visitors can also download a Breast Cancer Awareness pamphlet "Beware of the crab in your breast" which provides very practical information on Breast Cancer facts, myths, risk factors and Women's responsibility in early detection. "We absolutely believe the online campaign will have a major impact as more and more women are going online to find health related information. The ability to target the women audience, particularly at a time when they are receptive to such information is possible through the internet. Any entity that is trying to get a message across can't ignore the online medium any longer", adds Malathy Jey.
Several leading hospitals and healthcare centers all across the country are actively participating in the Online Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. "We are happy to be associated with this Campaign. We will be giving a discount of 50 % on mammography to the women who approach us through the promotional activities of Indusladies.com at our Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai hospitals.", says Mrs. Sangita Reddy, Executive Director Apollo Hospitals Group.
