Indie Film Takes to Kickstarter to Raise Funds
Film Producers Launch Campaign to Create "The Other Side of Love" - A Film that Explores Open Marriage.
- (1888PressRelease) November 20, 2012 - Los Angeles - An advertising executive is taking her creative expertise to the next level with the production of her film project, "The Other Side of Love." The film, which delves into what happens when a happily married couple explores the possibility of an open marriage, is currently on Kickstarter.com to raise much needed funds (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1431740028/the-other-side-of-love-film-and-web-series).
With just 13 days to go (expiring on Nov. 29), the campaign is almost half way to its $50,000 goal. "The Other Side of Love" stars a couple seeking an alternative lifestyle that not only shocks their friends, but makes them question why they bother striving for "true love." While the film has not yet been cast, it includes involvement from industry veterans such as Bille Woodruff ("Honey," "Beauty Shop" and BET's "The Game), Ana Ortiz ("Ugly Betty," "Hung"), Dondre Witfield ("All My Children," "Middle of Nowhere") and Brooklyn McLinn ("Friends with Benefits," "Parenthood"), Mekia Cox ("Crazy, Stupid Love," "Undercovers"), Dorian Missick ("Southland," "Haven") and music by DJ Tendaji Lathan (Def Poetry Jam).
"This project came about when I decided to write what I wanted, rather than what my agent felt would appeal to the mainstream," explains Aireka Muse, writer and producer for the film. "I wanted to create something fresh that touches on a taboo topic and gives multicultural actors the opportunity to play real roles, rather than some of the stereotypical characters that are available to them."
To help generate interest in the project, the film-makers are releasing some creative control to participants who donate in the $30 and $50 range. The producers will be creating a private website for these donors to get behind-the-scenes access to the pre- and post-production process. They will be able to vote on casting, set locations, wardrobe and even music. Additionally, five interns will be chosen from the $30 donor category to truly be a part of the process. They will gain exclusive access to the cast and crew and learn what it takes to make an independent film.
