Indian NGOs adding zing to their crafts store
For a long time NGOs in india were not internet savvy and did not got the accolades they deserved despite the superior arts and crafts products. But times have changed and the NGos are waking up to the online market space.
- (1888PressRelease) August 28, 2012 - Aseema an Ngo from Mumbai is trying to sale its hand painted kitchen storage boxes on facebook. When contacted, they said," Yeah,we thought that facebook page will be good option as a major population of India is on facebook. So far we have good responses". Despite all the tall claims their sales are low and facebook like count stands at a miserable 42.
Kiskinda Trust bangalore makes jali purses make of jute. Bangalore resident Shalini is big fan of these purses and said," These purses provide me with x factor in parties and night clubs.Truly amazing stuff." But the sales are very low. One major reason as per shalini is very bad navigation on their website. "You have to download the 22 MB catalogue on their website to see the Jali purse. I dont understand why they cant show it on home page of their website itself."
Poocharam Federation of vellore creates beautiful palm leaf rattles. Poonam sharma a north indian settled in vellore is their regular customer. When asked about poor online sales of plamleaf rattles ,she replied" These palmleaf rattles are beatiful but you have to convince people about it. When i toldmy friends to buy them from Poocharam ,they visited the website and were disappointed with low resolution images. Their perception changed when they saw the same rattles on My son's birthday party. Why cant they upload the high resolution pics?"
But there are some good success stories too.
Ramona Saboo of forty red bangles supoort NGOs and is successful at selling the same products online that Ngos are unable to sale it on their own website.Ramona is
happy with her effort, "40 Red Bangles is a way to connect with, celebrate and discover my indian roots.I present the NGO products with high resolution pics and a buy button and results are there to see."
Another good success story is of NGO silence in kolkata. They sale handmade Hena candles. When contacted their representative said," We posted pics of our candles on Pintrest and Fancybut the response was not positive. Fortunaly a friend of mine told me about 3mik.com. When i posted it on 3mik.com,i got 10 orders in one week."
Saurabh srivastava ,founder of 3mik, believes that the sharing is discovery these days. " People dont know what they want to buy. You have to show them the products. When we posted about Sky lanterns on our site ,the sales of sky lanterns peaked."
