Indian Cricket Captain MS Dhoni interacted with LPU Students
Dhoni launched 'LPU-MS Dhoni Scholarship' for brilliant sportspersons & students.
- (1888PressRelease) August 12, 2016 - Indian Cricket Team Skipper Mahender Singh Dhoni reached Lovely Professional University campus, and interacted with university students. As he reached the campus, LPU students kept on chanting "Dhoni…Dhoni…Dhoni" and greeted him with yells, shouts, shrieks, claps and stamps. Dhoni made an entry on the stage amid traditional Punjabi welcome under "thaaps" of Dhols and Bhangra steps. National award winning bollywood director Neeraj Pandey also accompanied Dhoni. Famous among cricket fans as 'Captain Cool', 'Mahi' and more, Dhoni interacted with LPU students and shared inspiring episodes and experiences from his career started as a railway ticket collector to an ace cricket captain. Making LPU as the first place in India, Captain Dhoni also released the trailer of his upcoming bio-graphical movie 'MS Dhoni-The Untold Story'. The film is based on the life of Captain Dhoni and features Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead role as Dhoni; whereas, actress Kiara Advani as Dhoni's wife Sakshi Dhoni.
Under joint efforts of MS Dhoni and LPU, Captain Dhoni also launched 'LPU Dhoni Scholarship' so that top sports persons get motivated to studies. This scholarship is for international players, Ranji-Trophy Medalists, Inter University Finalists & other brilliant sports persons & students. LPU Management and the Indian skipper wants that money should not be a constraint for good sportspersons in getting quality education. Dhoni also taught students how to play his signature "Helicopter shot". He also awarded an LPU cricketer who played the longest 'Six' during cricket-competition organized on the eve of Dhoni's coming to the campus. Captain Dhoni also presented a cricket bat and ball under his signatures to LPU as a token of commemoration for launching of MS Dhoni Scholarship.
While interacting with students, Dhoni explained about the film that it will show many untold aspects of his life, particularly his earlier life: "Here are all challenges and hard work that I faced, and nothing in special that only glorifies me." He also shared that his personal life is significant but the winning of world cup is the most significant turning moment of his life. He shared that he is firm believer in youth and when he heard that Sushant Rajput is going to play him on screen, he got certain that he would exactly portray him, particularly his playing style: "Sushant really proved it as he worked hard for many months, went to gym, and learnt well how I walk and talk." Sharing about his love for Jalandhar in Punjab, he shared that he loves this city as the cricket bats of his choice are carved out of the best wood, which makes him hit tons of runs. Forwarding a great message to the students, Dhoni said: "Take much from your learning at the campus and be successful. Despite all the elation over a win, it is important not to get carried away with the victory. Only cultivate the winning habit. One needs to perform consistently, and if winning standard is raised then one has to stand by it. One has to keep on doing well. If one is playing against an aggressive side, one has to play an aggressive game."
Prior to this, Lovely Group Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal, Vice-Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal accorded warm welcome to the elite guest. LPU Chancellor invoked all students to follow the hard earned successful sagas of illustrious cricketer Dhoni to be a leader in their respective fields.
Illustrative, along with many other feathers in his cap, the most successful Indian captain Dhoni is now being trailed by other famous international cricketers including Ricky Ponting, Brendon McCullum, Chris Gayle and Sourav Ganguly in hitting 200 international sixes as a captain.
