Also present on the occasion were Dr. Amit Maydeo, Director, Baldota Institute of Digestive Sciences, Dr. K. Ravindranath, Chairman & Managing Director, Global Hospitals Group, and the medical luminaries of Mumbai.
This unique center has been the brainchild of reputed Gastroenterologist, Dr Amit Maydeo from Mumbai. Speaking on the occasion, he said that this will be a giant leap in medical care for all patients suffering from problems related to the Digestive system. He further added that this center was equipped with the most advanced equipment and manned by 14 reputed Gastroenterologists from the city of Mumbai. All this has been possible because of the magnanimous financial support from the Baldota Group who has been traditionally known for their philanthropic activities for the betterment of society.

BIDS will have an active teaching program to train young doctors from India in the form of India's first 'Endoscopy Gurukul'
With the infrastructure and expertise it has, BIDS would be the most technologically advanced centers in this part of the world. Special machines to detect cancers in the very early stage by illuminating them using special light, ultra-thin endoscopes which could be passed inside through the nose, Double lumen endoscopes which can permit endoscopic surgery and the ERBE - Hybrid knife by which bloodless dissection can be carried out were some of the highlights of the equipment.

In-spite of being the most advanced centers, BIDS would cater to patients from the entire cross section of society.
BIDS will keep a central motto of treating poor and needy patients, senior citizens, artists, primary school teachers and patients from the armed forces of the country at 25% of the total cost or even completely free.
BIDS will conduct community programs for patient awareness in the form of direct patient mailings, television programs etc.
BIDS would conduct free GI check up camps to detect GI cancers and other diseases in the early stage in various small districts of Maharashtra and surrounding states of India.
Future plans of BIDS
BIDS plans to have a pan-India presence in the years to come with centers in other major cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi.
BIDS will continuously upgrade its equipment maintain its leading role in the country through the constant support of the Baldota Group.

This inaugural function was presided over by the Hon. Home Minister of India, Shri. Sushilkumarji Shinde. During the function, Shri. Sushilkumarji Shinde applauded the Baldota Group for its contribution in setting up centres of excellence in healthcare and urged other corporates to undertake similar initiatives. He also appreciated the inclusive nature of BIDS and said "While advanced treatment modalities were usually available only for select people, I congratulate BIDS for setting a unique example of providing advanced medical care to everyone irrespective of their economic status.
