India's First Human Powered Rally To Flag- Off From Chennai

Slated to be India's first Human Powered Rally, the Rickshaw Challenge, Mumbai Xpress- 2010 is an eagerly awaited annual event which sees people of different nationalities and backgrounds come together to race their auto rickshaws against one another for a bit of adventure, fun and charity.
This year, the ultimate adventure challenge's focus on Human Power will see the participants relying on the local population at each halt to navigate and guide them during their entire 2000 km journey. This is the first time an Indian race will see its participants not relying on any officially supplied maps or technical equipment for the entire duration of the challenge. The participants' endurance will be tested to the limit with the challenge further compounded by the fact that they will have to overcome not only physical, mental and geographical barriers but also the language barrier to cinch the top spot.
The Rickshaw Challenge, Mumbai Xpress- 2010 will take the participants across rugged hills, rural countryside, balmy beaches, isolated towns and deserted valleys - all in just 14 days. 28 participants in 13 teams will compete in 13 stages across the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Cheering them on will be a large and loyal contingent of fans, adventure enthusiasts and rickshaw lovers from diverse countries across the globe like Singapore, UK, Australia, South Africa, Canada etc.
The Rickshaw Challenge is certifiably not for the faint-hearted. It comprises of daily contests, mini adventure challenges along with treasure hunts and other difficult competitions. The participants are allocated points for all categories including costumes, creativity, money raised for charity etc. The overall winner qualifies for the coveted grand prize of a free entry for two participants into the Caucasian Challenge, a 6000 km race across 11 countries in Europe in just over two weeks. Each participant is provided sufficient training before the race begins to ensure a fair chance in the competition.
However the Rickshaw Challenge is not all fun and games only. It has a proud history and a generous spirit of raising funds for the underprivileged and in the past has raised more than US $50,000 for several charitable projects. This year, too, will be no different and the participants will seek to raise funds for various projects of Round Table India.
