- Salt Lake City-Ogden, UT (1888PressRelease) September 09, 2010 - The online Associate's in Respiratory Therapy program offered by Independence University has been awarded free standing accreditation.
The free standing accreditation, which followed years of compulsory reaccredidation, was recommended by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) and approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). The program is now accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
This accreditation is the first of its kind to be awarded to an online Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy (ASRT) program, and is a matter of pride for Independence University.
The freestanding accreditation status was the result of the approval for a change of sponsorship of the distance learning ASRT program from California College of Health Sciences to Independence University.
The Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy program offered by IU has been designed to impart practical training and clinical experience to graduates. After completing the program, students are eligible to sit for the entry-level Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or advanced-level Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) licensing examinations administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
The program offers a combination of general education courses, prerequisite and introductory courses, intermediate courses, and advanced courses in respiratory therapy.
Those who hold an NBRC certified CRT credential start the program with intermediate courses, while those who have an RRT credential begin at the advanced level. All other students enrolled in the program are required to take prerequisite and introductory courses.
