  • (1888PressRelease) August 06, 2011 - Town of the Blue Mountains, ON - Cedar Run Horse Park is celebrating right along with the winners on the heels of the first-ever Cedar Run Hunter Jumper Classic, a prestigious Equine Canada Gold-sanctioned "A" level event held July 6th through 10th.

"We're thrilled to be bringing a destination horse show back to the Blue Mountains area," said Cedar Run President Peter Lush, adding that the inaugural event drew 330 horses. "Based on positive feedback from competitors, trainers and spectators, we're aiming to make this a highly anticipated annual event at the park, with plans already under way for an expanded event in 2012."

Presented by Huron Tractor, the five-day event featured riders from across Ontario and surrounding areas who competed for $40,000 in prize money. Highlights of the week included the first Ontario Canadian Hunter Derby qualifier, won by Jackie Tattersall and Renowned; and, the $5,000 Modified Grand Prix event won by Zoe Beckerman and Shakira. Additional feature events included the $1,000 Pony Classic won by Emma Hennessey and Cedar Spring Pen Pal, and the $3,000 Open Hunter Classic won by Diana Dionisio and Lancelot.

Adding to the fun was a Groom's Class event designed to give groomers a chance to get in on the action in a timed task challenge worth $2,000 in donated prize money. The four tasks included: pushing a wheelbarrow 50 feet to a bale of hay, carrying the hay 50 feet to your horse, jogging your horse to a mounting block, mounting and riding to the finish line with an optional jump along the way.

"The Hunter Jumper Classic was an action-packed weekend with something for everyone," said Lush, noting that the Blue Mountains Chili Ribfest also took place on the grounds over the weekend. "This event is ideally suited to our overall vision, which is to be a multi-disciplinary facility in a breathtaking natural setting," he said.

Hosting an A-calibre event is consistent with Cedar Run's goal to provide a diversity of events for everyone to enjoy as it continues to attract top riding events for the riding community at the same time. The park already boasts seven professionally designed and engineered competition rings with plans to add a first-class indoor arena, permanent stabling for 300 horses and a country villa resort community in the future.

Judging for the Hunter Jumper Classic was provided by Equine Canada certified officials, with Town of the Blue Mountains Mayor Ellen Anderson and Councillor Michael Martin on hand for select ribbon ceremonies. The event also boasted a large outdoor vendor area, providing a great sales and marketing opportunity for local businesses, craftsmen and artisans, as well as equestrian-related companies. Additional sponsors included: John Deere, Blue Mountain Veterinary Services, Henry Equestrian Insurance Brokers Ltd., Merial (GastroGard), Alpine Equestrian Centre, Braeburn Farms, The Tack Shoppe, The Diamond Studio and Dominion Regalia.
