IEEW Hosts 2013 International Women's Economic Summit July 29-30
The Institute For Economic Empowerment Of Women To Host Summit For PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® Students With Mistress Of Ceremony Susan Solovic.
- Oklahoma City, OK (1888PressRelease) July 25, 2013 - The Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women (IEEW) (http://ieew.org), a nonprofit organization that encourages women's leadership and entrepreneurship through education and mentoring initiatives, has announced that it will host the 2013 International Women's Economic Summit as part of the PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® program on Monday, July 29 through Tuesday, July 30 at the AT&T Center for Learning, located at 6301 Colwell Blvd. in Irving, Texas.
The summit will serve as a catalyst into the impact of women in the political, social and economic spheres in the countries of Afghanistan and Rwanda. The students of the PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® program are all business owners from Afghanistan and Rwanda, areas where women face oppression and marginalization each day. During the summit, these women will have the unique opportunity to learn from the vast triumphs of women throughout the ages and acquire valuable skills and knowledge needed to help them become stronger change agents for peace and equality at home and beyond. The students will leave with strong connections and vital resources they can use to continue to fight for women's economic empowerment across the globe.
Susan Solovic, THE Small Business Expert, media personality and New York Times best-selling author, will serve as the Summit's mistress of ceremonies. The presentations to be held at the summit are as follows:
Monday, July 29
"Building Your Business with a Beat" (9:20 a.m. to 10 a.m.)
Led by Judi Sheppard Missett, founder and CEO of Jazzercise, Inc., will discuss how she built her business nearly 45 years ago by using her personal beat and energy as driving forces.
"SHEconomics: Women's Global Impact; SHEntrepreneurs from Afghanistan and Rwanda Inspire" (10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.)
Charlene Lake, senior vice president of public affairs and chief sustainability officer at AT&T, will lead this discussion on how students in the PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® program can use their newly developed business and leadership skills to make a positive difference in their home countries for other women entrepreneurs.
"Wonder Women" (12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.)
In this presentation, Rita A. Aragon, retired major general and secretary of military and veterans affairs for Oklahoma, will compare the Wonder Woman superhero of the 1940s to modern-day Wonder Women.
"Rule of Law: How the Law Impacts Women Globally" (1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.)
Hamid Khan, senior program officer at the Rule of Law Center, will speak about how business laws affect women in countries around the world. In addition, students will have the chance to ask questions and discuss how to foster political change in order to provide women in business with equal rights and privileges.
"Trade Opportunities and Empowering Women Around the World" (2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.)
Led by Mara M. Burr, deputy assistant in the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), will help students understand how the USTR is working to promote women entrepreneurs in Afghanistan. Burr will discuss details of the Memorandum of Understanding being crafted between the United States and Afghanistan, which will partly focus on the economic empowerment of women.
"SHEconomics Takeaway" (3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.)
Solovic will wrap up the first day of the summit with a discussion of the key takeaways.
Tuesday, July 30
"Telling Your Story and Elevating Your Brand" (9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.)
Three leaders from VOX Global, a public affairs and strategic communication firm, will share their own professional stories and teach how using such a story can help turn a business into an identifiable brand. Presenters from VOX Global include Brooke McNalley, senior vice president, Carey Tarbell, partner, and Jessica Abensour, senior vice president.
"SHEmedia: Deep Dive into the Media and Your Business" (10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.)
A presenter from AT&T will teach students how to use the media to their advantage. By learning how to stand out and get attention, specifically on various social media platforms, entrepreneurs can leverage their businesses on a global scale.
