IEEE Computer Society Welcomes New Editors in Chief
LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 5 August 2013 - The IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors has confirmed the appointments of new editors in chief for three magazines and five transactions for terms beginning in 2014.
- (1888PressRelease) August 07, 2013 - San Murugesan, director of BRITE Professional Services and an adjunct professor at University of Western Sydney in Australia, will assume the role of editor in chief for IT Professional magazine. Murugesan, currently associate editor in chief for IT Professional, is a corporate trainer, a consultant and author, and a former Senior Research Fellow of the US National Research Council, at NASA Ames Research Center.
IEEE Pervasive magazine will be led by Maria Ebling, a research staff member and senior manager at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, where she has worked since 1998. Her research interests are in distributed systems supporting mobile and pervasive computing, privacy, and human-computer interaction.
Miguel Encarnação, a professor of computer engineering and computer science at University of Louisville, will serve as editor in chief of IEEE Computer Graphics & Applications magazine. His research interests are in intelligent and adaptive user interfaces; 3D, mobile, and multimodal interaction; affective computing, scientific and information visualization, eLearning, and virtual and augmented reality.
Elisa Bertino, a professor of computer science at Purdue University and acting research director for the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security, was named editor in chief of IEEE Transactions on Secure and Dependable Computing. Bertino received the IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award in 2002 for outstanding contributions to database systems and database security and advanced data management systems, and the 2005 Tsutomu Kanai Award for pioneering and innovative research contributions to secure distributed systems.
David A. Bader, a professor and executive director of high-performance computing in Georgia Tech's College of Computing, will serve as editor in chief of IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems. Bader was director of the first Sony Toshiba IBM Center of Competence for the Cell Processor at Georgia Tech.
Matthew Dwyer, Henson Professor and Acting Department Chair in the University of Nebraska's Computer Science & Engineering Department, is the new editor in chief of IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering.
Lynette A. Jones, senior research scientist in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has been named the new editor in chief of IEEE Transactions on Haptics. Currently associate editor in chief of ToH, Jones has served as program co-chair for the IEEE World Haptics Conference.
Prasant Mohapatra, the Tim Bucher Family Endowed Chair in the Computer Science Department at the University of California, Davis, has been named the new editor in chief of IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing. Mohapatra has been on the faculty at Iowa State University and Michigan State University and held visiting scientist positions at Intel, Panasonic Technologies, Institute of Infocomm Research, and National ICT Australia.
