IEDC Releases Report on Manufacturing as Important Source of New High-Quality Jobs
New IEDC research report explores the evolution of the manufacturing sector and what communities can do to foster its viability. It combines high level discussions of important market trends with nuts-and-bolts guidance on what those trends mean for local communities that are working to protect and grow manufacturing jobs.
- Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) October 29, 2011 - The International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the world's largest economic development membership organization serving 4,600 members, announced today the release of its latest research report, "Jobs in the Making: Economic Development Strategies to Grow Manufacturing". The extensive 200-page report, in development for more than a year, was produced under the guidance of IEDC's Economic Development Research Partners (EDRP) program that serves as a think tank within the organization. EDRP sponsors cutting-edge research to aid IEDC members and the entire economic development profession.
IEDC's incoming 2012 Chairman, Jay C. Moon, CEcD, FM remarked about the report, "As President of the Mississippi Manufacturers Association, I am a firm believer in the importance of manufacturing to my state and our country. As the 2012 IEDC Chairman, my initiatives will focus on the growing importance of manufacturing - as a creator of high value jobs and as the tip of the spear in U.S. global competitiveness. Unlike many such documents, this IEDC report offers more than just condition assessment; it presents clear economic development options to advance manufacturing and create more high-quality jobs. The inclusion of successful case studies, a hands-on tool kit to prevent job losses and an exhaustive list of federal resources make our report a truly useful tool to help take full advantage of the promise that manufacturing holds for the United States."
Paul Krutko, EDRP Co-Chair and President and CEO of Ann Arbor SPARK, notes, "Manufacturing has been, and will continue to be, critically important for the American economy. Our 'Jobs in the Making…' report is the most extensive research project that IEDC's EDRP group has yet taken on. We are particularly proud of its originality as both an analytical document and as a highly useful tool to help support job creation within American manufacturing. Beyond being valuable to economic developers, I am confident that many individuals and institutions in allied fields will find the report of great utility."
"Jobs in the Making: Economic Development Strategies to Grow Manufacturing" was created not only to help economic developers deal with current economic difficulties that affect manufacturing but also to identify and take advantage of real job-creating opportunities and resources. The report is available via download to members free of charge and for sale in print to nonmembers at $75.00.
